During these weeks, the cleaning arrangements in the buildings of the Vestfjörður Health Institute in Torfnes on Ísafjörður change.
The company Massi thrif has been cleaning for about 20 years at the institution. However, a large part of the cleaning has been done by the cleaning department. There was reason to review the arrangements that had been made, and the contract with Massa was therefore terminated this winter with the effective date of termination on August 31. Subsequently, cleaning in the main building and Eyri were tendered together, in accordance with the law on public procurement. Government procurement assisted in the preparation of the tender. One offer was received, from Sólar. It met all the conditions of the tender and was considerably below the organization's budget. The company now handles sanitary cleaning for, among others, Landspítala Fossvogi and numerous nursing homes.
Sólar takes over the cleaning on October 1. The company has started preparations and will advertise for staff in the coming days. The cleaning department in its current form will be closed down. That policy has been clear since this winter and was last presented to the staff at a meeting with representatives of the Vestfjörður Trade Union this week. The staff of the department will be invited to relocate for work and are now using the time to think about the matter and talk with the human resources manager about which solutions are suitable for each of them.
