Physiotherapists are specially trained in the body's musculoskeletal system and in diagnosing abnormalities in its function. The sooner a physical therapist comes to a problem where their expertise is needed, the greater the chance of a faster and better recovery. Now a physiotherapist has come in as the first person to receive people with musculoskeletal problems at the Health Center in Ísafjörður.

At the physiotherapist's musculoskeletal clinic, early intervention is provided in the form of diagnosis and advice, not traditional physiotherapist treatment. In this way, the problem can be approached earlier, thereby reducing the likelihood that it will become chronic.

  • The physiotherapist's musculoskeletal reception receives persons with symptoms and/or pain from the musculoskeletal system. The main goal is to prevent the worsening of symptoms and to start recovery as soon as possible.
  • The physiotherapist primarily provides education and advice in the form of self-help such as exercises, rest positions, taping, working postures or self-treatment in the form of heat and cold therapy, soft tissue therapy or other.
  • Follow-up with the consultation is provided in the form of a phone call, usually 2-3 weeks after coming to the physiotherapist.
  • If the physiotherapist at the health care considers the case to be of such a nature, he can write a request for physiotherapy and refer the individual to treatment by a physiotherapist outside the health care.
  • If a physiotherapist believes that a person seeking a musculoskeletal clinic needs a medical examination or imaging studies, he has access to book an appointment with a doctor without a long wait for an appointment.
