A resident of the Bergi nursing home in Bolungarvík died yesterday from Covid-19. Two are infected with Covid and three household members are in isolation and samples have been taken. Five residents are in quarantine without symptoms.
The majority of permanent employees at the nursing home are in isolation, five of whom have a confirmed infection. Other permanent employees apart from the three are in quarantine and the home is therefore looked after almost exclusively by people from the rearguard team or other departments of the organization. Reinforcements have already arrived from the rear guard unit and more are expected with the Coast Guard's helicopter later today if the weather permits.
The Vestfjörður Health Foundation expresses its condolences to the family. We wish the employees and household members a speedy recovery, and we thank the community for their help and goodwill. We also thank the people who have volunteered to work at the organization as part of the rearguard team.
