Dear residents of the Westfjords and staff of the Westfjords Health Institute, the year 2025 was both challenging and eventful in the operations of the Westfjords Health Institute.
Staffing and finances remain key challenges, as they have been in the past and in the healthcare system in general. Specialist staffing has proven particularly difficult, but we have been working systematically on solutions that strengthen stability in human resources and will continue unabated on that path.
A major challenge is to ensure statutory health services within the financial resources that the institution has. The operating deficit for 2025 amounted to 2.4%. A detailed analysis of actual operations and the financial contribution that the institution receives is being carried out. Our assessment is that the state budget does not fully reflect the financial needs of basic operations. However, we have good and constructive cooperation with the Ministry of Health on solutions.
We are delighted to announce that the Westfjords Health Institute came out on top of all healthcare institutions in the annual Institute of the Year survey, which is conducted among government agency staff. The results confirm good teamwork, solid leadership and a strong service culture.

The organization has also benefited from the generosity of the local community. We received numerous gifts during the year, both large and small, in the form of equipment, supplies and financial contributions. Such support demonstrates the solidarity of the community and has a real impact on the quality of service.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to individuals, companies and organizations for their generosity and the warmth behind it.
The Westfjords Health Institute is a cohesive and competent team that strives to provide safe and quality services for the community and all those who seek our services. We will continue to strengthen services, secure appropriate human resources, improve premises and renew equipment.
