The Sigurvon Cancer Society in the northern part of Vestfjörður has handed over a donation of half a million ISK to the Memorial Foundation of Úlf Gunnarsson, former chief physician, and the Vestfjörður Health Foundation, which is intended to support the purchase of a new CT scanner for the institute. The year

In 2005, a collection was started for the purchase of CT equipment for the Vestfjörður Health Institute in Ísafjörður. A used device was purchased for part of the fundraising money, but unfortunately the device broke down last year. Around 1,300 people had been examined in the device on Ísafjörður. ?The importance of having such a device available at the institution is therefore indisputable in terms of shorter research time, more targeted results in diagnoses and lower costs for those who can benefit from such research at home,? says in a press release.

The 2005 fundraiser went so well that it nearly doubled the purchase price of the device, and those funds have enjoyed a good return. When assessing the repair costs and operational reliability of the old device, offers were also sought for a new device, since new devices have dropped significantly in price despite the weakening of the króna.

Among other things, an offer was received from the manufacturer of the older four-slice device to replace it with a new 16-slice device. The offer consisted of an interim payment in the amount of approximately 40 million ISK. The board of the Wolf Fund considered this offer so favorable that it was decided to start a follow-up fundraiser, and it has gone well. The device is in the house and work is being done on its installation.

However, there is still a lot of work to be done to make ends meet, so it has been decided to ask companies and the public for voluntary donations for the collection.

Ulfsjóður, which is responsible for the collection, has established a collection account in Sparisjóð. We would really appreciate your help and in that regard we would like to point out invoice no. 1128-05-2051, id. 430210-0170, the notice says.
