This week we complete the first round of children's vaccinations against Covid-19. This has gone very well, apart from the fact that the weather and quarantine have only delayed the project. Therefore, the program includes middle school children from Bolungarvík and all children born in 2016 in all towns in the northern part of Vestfjörður. Also the children born in 2017 who have turned five years old wherever they live.

Everything will be done to make the vaccination enjoyable for children and their families. There is good cooperation with the school authorities during the preparation.

Information on vaccination can be found here: Vaccination of children (covid.is) in many languages and additional material in Icelandic, English and Polish here.

You can view material in Icelandic, English and Polish for viewing with 5-11 year olds here and additional material here.

Vaccination request

Custodians who share a legal domicile with a child and use electronic IDs must take a stand on the child's vaccination here: skraning.covid.is You can:

  • Register your child for vaccination
  • List of persons who are authorized to accompany the child during vaccination
  • Refuse/wait for vaccination

When the guardian has registered his child for vaccination, he will receive a barcode with an SMS message to the number associated with the electronic ID. It is the guardian's responsibility to forward the barcode if they want someone else to accompany the child for vaccination. If someone shows up with a child without a barcode at the vaccination site, the child's ID number is looked up. You can also see if vaccination has been requested and who is registered with permission to attend with the child. In those cases, ID is asked.

  1. Guardians of children of this age who not use electronic credentials can attend themselves with the child at the vaccination site and must have an ID with them.
  2. Parties without social security number can register their child for vaccination at bolusettn.covid.is (English: vaccine.covid.is) to speed up the process at the vaccination site and then attend themselves with their child there at the advertised time.

Vaccination pending or refused:

  • If a guardian has opted out of vaccination with an electronic ID, another guardian can not changed it.
  • Opting out after acceptance disables the issued barcode. An active barcode at the vaccination site is thus a confirmation that approval for vaccination is available.
  • To opt out of vaccination without electronic IDs need to send an email to the school nurse at the child's school. A rejection received this way within 24 hours before the scheduled vaccination cannot be recorded with certainty before the vaccination is carried out. Only legal guardians with a child can opt out of vaccination.
  • All parties who have registered in the system will be notified of changes to the registration of children in their care.

Disagreements between guardians need to be resolved at another level, vaccination will remain available if the guardians agree that it should be done.
