Residents of nursing homes and frontline workers in Vestfjörður will be vaccinated today, about 70 people.

The first vaccination took place at Bergi in Bolungarvík at 10 this morning, December 30. Ester Hallgrímsdóttir, a resident of Berg, received the first dose. In April, she escaped infection despite being surrounded by infected residents when the group infection occurred there.

Fjóla Sigríður Bjarnadóttir, head of the nursing homes Eyrar, Bergs and Tjarnar, gave her the injection. Fjóla has been a nurse in Berg for years and led operations there in April. At the end of the year, Fjóla is retiring from the organization and moving to Garðabær.

"This is a symbolic and emotional day for all of us," says Hildur Elísabet Pétursdóttir, director of nursing.

Other residents of the institution's nursing homes in Tjörn á Þingeyri, Eyri á Ísafjörður will be vaccinated today, as well as doctors and nurses in the front line of the health service. Vaccine has also been landed at the airport in Bíldudal, and residents in nursing facilities in Patreksfjörður and frontline workers will be vaccinated today. A total of 70 doses will therefore be given.
