Due to the development of the COVID-19 disease in recent days, it is the joint opinion of the district doctor of epidemiology and the executive board of the Vestfjörður Health Foundation that the annual festival, which was supposed to be held on March 14 in Bolungarvík, will be postponed. The lunch that was supposed to be held the day before the annual celebration, and this year was supposed to have a Ladda theme, is also postponed. The situation will be reassessed regularly, but it is most likely that the annual festival will take place this fall. Other social activities organized by the employees' association will also be restricted.
For a large organization that is part of the community's basic services, it is irresponsible to hold an event where all the health workers from a large area gather in close proximity. If all the guests of such a gathering had to be quarantined, the consequences would be serious for the institution, clients and society.
The board of the staff association and the entertainment committee were involved in the decision made earlier today. No one makes such a decision for fun; the preparations for the annual festival were well advanced, a fine master of ceremonies from the south had been hired, priceless entertainment had been written, and many people had already booked both babysitting and hairdressing appointments. The annual festival this fall will be even more fun as a result.
