The first baby of 2026 at the Westfjords Health Institute is a girl who was born on January 19. The parents are Tanja Björk Ómarsdóttir and Jakob Fannar Magnússon, who live in Ísafjörður and are in good health with mother and child. This is of course published with their permission, and we sincerely wish them congratulations on the baby.
We are very proud of our maternity ward and all the good work that goes on there. So it's nice to share news about its work.
At the beginning of the year, Hvest midwives published various figures for the year 2025. During the year, 31 children were born at Hvest, 14 girls and 17 boys, and the birth rate increased by 91% from the previous year.
In 2025, there were three full-time midwives working at the institution and 1 midwife in a replacement position, this arrangement will remain unchanged in 2026. Attached is an overview of births in 2025 on this beautiful embroidery that the maternity ward has hanging in the ward. Be sure to follow their work on social media under Hvestljósur.
