In the district of the Vestfjörður Institute of Health, the infection of the COVID-19 virus has not yet been detected. In the northern region, one is in isolation and one is currently in quarantine. Various measures have been taken to reduce the risk of infection and response plans have been launched.
The main measures taken are:
- An epidemic prevention board has been established due to the virus, which occurs at least every other day. The board includes the director of the institute, the district doctor of epidemiology, the director of nursing and medicine, the chairman of the infection control committee for the northern region and the nursing director of Patreksfjörður.
- On Patreksfjörður and Ísafjörður, reception rooms have been set up for people with suspected infection who cannot be visited at home (tourists).
- Staff are regularly informed about the progress of matters and their responsibility in maintaining cleanliness in their department and with clients and relatives with whom they interact.
- Birthday parties and celebrations in nursing homes are limited.
- Those who have the slightest suspicion of infection are asked not to come to the institute.
- Employees and those who come to the institution are reminded that hand washing and alcohol is the most important protection against infection.
