At the meeting of the organization's executive board on May 5, it was agreed to hire Þorstein Jóhannesson, chief medical officer, as medical director.
Þorsteinn was born on Ísafjörður in 1951 and graduated from the University of Iceland in 1977. He received a specialist license in general surgery in 1985 and 1986 in Germany. He completed his doctoral studies in 1989 and covered the doctoral thesis on prognosis in acute pancreatitis.
Þorsteinn has been the chief physician of Fjörðungssúkrahús in Ísafjörður since 1990.
