Screening for the Covid-19 virus was carried out in the northern part of the Westfjords last week in collaboration with the Icelandic Genetic Analysis and the Westfjords Health Institute. Out of 1713 samples, 6 are positive or almost 0.4%. A few more samples still need to be analyzed, but it is unlikely that they will change the result in any way. About a third of the population in the area came for screening.
A number of people have been quarantined following these infections. Infection tracing is being done in the infection tracing team in Reykjavík and the region. It will end today, Sunday.
"These excellent results show that the infection control has been working. We have found the people who are read and the people with the virus have come to us for sampling. These low numbers show that the health institution and society as a whole have done a great job," says Súsanna Björg Ástvaldsdóttir, district doctor of epidemiology in the Westfjords.
"For the last few days, Westfjords have borne a large part of all infections nationwide. Hopefully we are gradually getting a handle on this here at Djúp. The bear is still not finished and we still need to keep our distance, wash and sanitize our hands and follow everything that has been taught to us in the last few weeks," says CEO Gylfi Ólafsson.
The virus will be screened at Patreksfjörður on Thursday, April 23 and Friday, April 24. More information about it is available on the organization's website.
An information session was held on Facebook with Bolvíking on Friday was. On Monday at 15:00 will be comparable meeting broadcast for the residents of Ísafjörður town.
