Today, a new x-ray machine was put into use at the institute's facility in Ísafjörður. The older one had been broken for several months, and since it was old it didn't seem wise to spend a lot to fix it. The new device is from Swissray.

The new device is powerful, but does not have all the features of the older one. A new complete device will only be purchased after a tender which takes considerably longer than could be accepted this time. That process is now underway but will not deliver a device until next year at the earliest. When that happens, the Swissray device will be moved to Patreksfjörður and replace the older device. There are no working radiologists on Patreksfjörður, so it is fortunate that there is a simple device that the radiologists of the institute on Ísafjörður have become familiar with.

The x-ray machine is purchased with money that came from a special budget item for the current year, but the exact allocation of that money was announced in a recent press release from the Ministry of Health.

CEO Gylfi Ólafsson and radiologist Hulda María Guðjónsdóttir receive the device from Stefán S. Skúlasyn from Fastus, its Icelandic agent, and Martin Darms who came from Swissray to complete the installation and configuration of the device. Ursula Siegle, head of the X-ray department, is missing from the photo.
