Andri Konráðsson has been appointed medical director at HVEST from September 1. He takes over from Hallgrím Kjartansson, who will remain the chief physician of the health care department at HVEST. Hallgrímur held that position along with the executive position, but left it in the hands of María Ólafsdóttir, a primary care physician, who was hired for that position temporarily for 1 year, but is now leaving shortly.
Andri is well known to many here in the west, but he was a doctor at the health care department of HVEST in Ísafjörður in the years 2001-2003. He is a specialist in general surgery and has been working as such in Stavanger, Norway for the past 10 years, the last 2 years as chief physician. He will therefore work as a surgeon at HVEST during his executive position. The surgeries are a certain ballast in the services of HVEST and are a prerequisite for many other health services, such as births for example.
General surgeons with extensive surgical experience are not everywhere, especially when considering the needs of a rural hospital. We welcome Andra to work this fall and consider ourselves lucky to have had such a good professional at HVEST.
