A group of 14 doctors and nurses at the institute attended a course in specialized resuscitation on the weekend of 19-21. november

The course is specially designed and standardized by the American Heart Association (American Heart Association) in collaboration with the most skilled experts in their field to make participants better able to manage professionals during resuscitation after major heart attacks and cardiac arrest. Those who may attend such courses are doctors, nurses, ambulance operators with emergency transport qualifications and emergency technicians (paramedics). The course "Specialized resuscitation" (ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support) is very comprehensive, both practical and bookish, and people had to read a book of almost 500 pages for preparation. The instructors for the course were Ásta Eymundsdóttir, a doctor at the Fjórdungssjúkrahúsið in Akureyri, and the emergency technicians Lárus Petersen and Gunnar Björgvinsson, from the Metropolitan Fire Department. The course ended on Sunday with a practical and written exam, and it's safe to say that everyone was successful in solving the puzzles that were set for them.
The practical exercises used 2 highly advanced, computer-controlled dummies, which can be subjected to all types of heart attacks, arrhythmias and cardiac arrests. Their breathing sounds and pulses can be controlled and displayed, and the effects of medication can be seen. They could also be connected to a defibrillator and used to support the "patients". For information, it can be mentioned that each of the dolls, together with accessories, costs about 2 million ISK.
