Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic, there has been a lot of pressure on the employees of the Vestfjörður Health Institute, just like on other health workers. From the beginning, work has been carried out according to new rules aimed at reducing contact in order to prevent the spread of infection. The rules changed and became stricter as the epidemic progressed. When infections reached the west, it was very heavy and the pressure on staff increased enormously. A number of the organization's employees lost their jobs due to infections and quarantines, and the invaluable assistance of the rear guard has helped the staff to keep the organization running during these difficult times. 

It is not only skilled people who come by helicopter from the south to help. The townspeople have also jumped in and come to work. There are many tasks that need to be done and the jobs are varied. An increased number is needed in care, as shift systems change, cleaning is greatly increased and cleaning is done in a different way than before. Administration of various kinds and resources are many times greater than on normal days, and with fewer visits to health care, communication on the Internet and on the phone increases greatly, and they need to be taken care of. The number of employees has therefore increased and the working day for many is long, which then requires increased work by the payroll department.

A healthcare organization is like a machine where all parts need to be in order for the operation to work. With the management's good planning and the enthusiasm of all the employees, it has been successful at the Vestfjörður Health Institute in the last few weeks.
