The Ministry of Health is advertising for applications for the position of CEO of the Vestfjörður Institute of Health.
The Vestfjörður Health Institute operates according to the Act on Health Services, no. 40/2007, with subsequent amendments. The health institute provides general health care in the Vestfjörður health district, which includes the municipalities of Bolungarvíkurkaupstað, Ísafjörðarbær, Súðavíkurhrepp, Tálknafjörðurhrepp and Vesturbyggð. The institute also administers internships in the health professions and works in connection with universities in the field of health education and research in health sciences.
Main tasks and responsibilities
The CEO is responsible for the Vestfjörður Health Institute working in accordance with the law, government directives and letters of reference given to him by the minister. The CEO is responsible for the organization's activities and services, that operating expenses and operating results are in accordance with the Act on Public Finances no. 123/2015 and that funds are used effectively.
According to the law, the CEO must have a university education and/or experience in operation and management that is useful in his work.
Qualification requirements
- University education at an advanced level that is useful in the job is a requirement.
- Experience in operation and management, including human resources, which is useful in the job is a requirement.
- Knowledge and experience in the field of public administration.
- Leadership skills and excellent interpersonal skills with an emphasis on result-oriented collaboration and information sharing are a requirement.
- Knowledge and experience in the field of healthcare.
- Experience in planning and implementing innovations is a requirement.
- Experience in strategic planning and a clear vision is a requirement.
- Initiative and independence in working methods.
An advantage is that the applicant has knowledge of public sector finances, has a very good command of Icelandic and the ability to express himself orally and in writing, good knowledge of English and knowledge of at least one Nordic language.

Salary according to the current collective agreement concluded by the Minister of Finance and the Economy and the external directors.
