The Vestfjörður public safety action board has decided, in consultation with the epidemiologist, the national doctor and the public safety department of the National Police Commissioner, the next steps in the lifting of restrictions.

Ísafjörður, Bolungarvík and Hnífsdalur

The restrictions imposed on April 1st will remain unchanged after April 26th indefinitely.

In the last week, a large part of the infections that have been detected in the country have been in the Westfjords. The district now stands out nationally due to both the number of deaths and the number of infected. However, the infections are almost exclusively in Bolungarvík and Ísafjörður. In the screening for the disease, there were cases that did not have a clear history of infection.

Dýrafjörður, Onundarfjordur, Súgandafjordur and Súðavíkur district
Special restrictions imposed on April 5 will be lifted. The same restrictions as at the national level still apply. Since the towns are part of the business district of the northern part of Vestfjörður, we still encourage people to be extra careful.

Next steps
The public defense action committee meets every day and assesses the situation and the need for intensified measures. It can be expected that a further decision will be made based on the results of sampling and infection tracing at the beginning of next week.

A notice will be issued as soon as there is a reason.

Changes in restrictions imposed due to Covid-19 in the Westfjords

Restrictions were put in place 1st April and 5th April. These apply to, among other things, schools, gatherings of all kinds and the operation of shops in the Westfjords.

For Flateyri, Suðureyri, Súðavík and Þingeyri, these restrictions will be lifted in the morning of 27th April. Nationwide restrictions still apply.

For Bolungarvík, Hnífsdalur and Ísafjörður, restrictions will still apply until further notice. A large proportion of confirmed cases nationwide have been in these towns, requiring the prolongation of the restrictions.
