Three Covid-19 infections have been diagnosed at the Bergi nursing home in Bolungarvík. This was confirmed by the results of analyzes this morning. Another eight residents are still in quarantine and without symptoms. Visitation ban

A curfew has been in effect at the home for a while, the necessary and strict quarantine measures have been taken and all the instructions of the health authorities have been followed.

"Our actions and priorities and the healthcare system as a whole have all aimed at limiting infections in nursing homes. These three infections are therefore a big shock," says Gylfi Ólafsson, director of the Vestfjörður Health Institute.

There is great cohesion in the group of employees, most of whom are in quarantine. The community is all together in this project. Of the strong response to the group's fundraiser Let's stand together Vestfjörður it is clear that the goodwill of the public is great.

The weather is bad on the moors, but the roads have been kept open for cars that have transported samples from the area. The Road Administration has also helped people from the rearguard team to get between parts of the country. Rescue teams have been available and, among other things, carried out the transport of samples.

A total of seven infections have been confirmed in the last 24 hours on Ísafjörður and in Bolungarvík. About a quarter of Bolvíkings are in quarantine.

The Vestfjörður Health Institute specifically requests nurses and paramedics, who can come at short notice, to register in the organization's rearguard team at the email address hvest@hvest.is. Staff are needed to work in nursing homes and emergency departments in the northern part of Vestfjörður.
