The company Klofningur ehf. has awarded Fjörðungssúkrahúsin in Ísafjörður (Þulfsjóðir) a grant of five million ISK for the purchase of a new CT scanner.

In 2006, the parties in Ísafjörður gathered and started a collection for CT scanners for FSI. Following the collection, a used device was purchased, which has proven its value and the need for such a device to be present in the quarter. The device was obtained for an amount that was a fraction of the collection money that was collected at the time. It has now been decided to renew the device and the old device will probably cost more than its purchase price. A search has been made for individuals and companies across the country who have answered the call with great courage, as can be seen with the donation that Guðni A. Einarsson handed over on behalf of Klofnings today.

Klofningur is owned by most of the fishing companies in the Westfjords, from Patreksfjörður north to Djúpi. It has establishments in Brjánslæk, Tálknafjörður, Ísafjörður and Suðureyri. ?We see this as support for all residents of the Westfjords,? says Guðni. At the handover, the representatives of the collection mentioned that all support is appreciated and those who wanted to show interest in this matter could make a payment to account no: 1128-05-250328, id. 430210-0170 (Wolf Fund).

The CT scanner has come in handy, the first year it was used in research on 255 people, but it was only in use from June. The following year it was used for 376 people, 456 in 2008, but this year it was used for research on 265 people from January to July, but then it failed.
