A medical examination is one of the prerequisites for a work or residence permit for foreigners here, and the epidemiologist has set new rules for these examinations.

According to Regulation 414/2007, the Epidemiologist has issued new ones procedures about medical examination of people moving to Iceland and how the result of these studies shall be treated.

 

The main changes from the previously published guidelines are:

  • It is precisely defined which medical examinations must be carried out on applicants for a residence permit from countries outside the EEA.
  • The results of tests on adults must be kept at the Center for Epidemic Prevention, the Health Center of the capital region, and the results of tests on children at the Outpatient Department of Infectious Diseases at Hringins Children's Hospital.
  • Payment for the above-mentioned tests and possible treatment resulting from them must be paid by the employer or the applicant for the residence permit during the first 6 months of stay in the country.
