Press release
Over the past few weeks, the undersigned parties who are very interested in promoting the WESTERN FIRISH settlement, have prepared a fundraiser to buy a CT scanner for the Fjörðungssýkrahús in Ísafjörður. Through good cooperation and consultation with the management of Fjörður Hospital and Health Care on Ísafjörður, it has now been decided to launch a fundraising project aimed at purchasing a CT scanner, which would be located at Fjörður Hospital on Ísafjörður.
It is a used but powerful device, so called a four-slice device. The purchase price of the device is almost 11 million ISK, and according to the doctors working at the hospital and health care in Ísafjörður, it meets the requirements for CT scans today. By offering research in this field, it is clear that the safety and speed in the diagnosis of diseases will multiply.
An ever-increasing proportion of examinations in hospitals are carried out in CT machines, and the number of patients who are sent from Ísafjörður for such examinations is two hundred a year. Based on experience elsewhere, it is likely that if CT scans could be offered here, that number would increase significantly. There is no need to elaborate on the practicality of being able to offer such research in the local area.
It has been decided to seek cooperation with individuals, non-profit organizations, companies, local governments and the Ministry of Health and Insurance. The matter has already been presented to the Minister of Health. A circular will be sent out this week asking for support for this important project.
It is our sincere hope that this issue will be well received and that the CT scanner will be put into use on Ísafjörður soon.
