According to an agreement between the CEO of the Vestfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Health Institute and \u00deorstein J\u00f3hannesson, surgeon and chief physician of the HVEST's medical department, \u00deorsteinn will retire from the health institute on July 15. after almost 30 years of work.
\u00deorsteinn was born on \u00cdsafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur on May 11, 1951 and completed his PhD in medicine from the University of Iceland in 1977 and received specialist qualifications in general surgery in Iceland in 1985 and in Germany in 1986. He completed his doctorate from Albert Ludwigs Universit\u00e4t in Freiburg in 1988. \u00deorsteinn has a long and successful career behind him. career at the hospital in \u00cdsafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, which spans a full 27 years, in addition to which he worked there as an assistant in the laboratory and in the X-ray department during the academic years 1973-1975 and as a medical student in the hospital department.<\/p>\n
In 1990, \u00deorsteinn came to work at the Fj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Hospital in \u00cdsafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, as the chief physician\/head physician and held that position until the merger of the health institutions in the Westfjords at the beginning of 2015 and has worked as the chief physician of the medical department of HVEST since that time. \u00deorsteinn has been on duty as a surgeon at the hospital in \u00cdsafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur almost tirelessly over the years, but took annual leave in 2012-2013 when he went to work as a ward doctor in the obstetrics and gynecology department of the Staufer clinic in Germany. In addition to medical work, \u00deorsteinn has been involved in teaching over the years, including teaching nursing students at both the University of Iceland and the University of Akureyri. He has also held a number of courses for medical personnel on the treatment of the injured and critically ill, and has given a number of lectures on medicine and related topics for associations and non-profit organizations.<\/p>\n
\u00deorsteinn has held various administrative and confidential positions in the community alongside medical and administrative positions within the health institution. He took care of local government affairs in the years 1994 - 2002 and for a time held the position of president of the town council of \u00cdsafjar\u00f0ar and \u00cdsafjar\u00f0arb\u00e6r and was chairman of the town council of \u00cdsafjar\u00f0arb\u00e6r. \u00deorsteinn has served on various boards and committees and has been active in social affairs. \u00deorsteinn has three children and his wife is Margr\u00e9t Krist\u00edn Hreinsd\u00f3ttir, a nurse.<\/p>\n
