In severe cases, children require intensive care and ventilatory support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recent years, the number of hospitalizations of children in their first year of life has increased in Iceland, and every year there are cases where children become very seriously ill. RS infections can also lead to bacterial infections such as pneumonia, which require antibiotic treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To achieve the greatest success, as many infants under six months of age as possible need to participate at the start of the RS season.
