On September 29, a presentation of public health indicators took place in the administration building in \u00cdsafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. Public health indicators are a collection of measures intended to provide indications of the health and well-being of the nation at any given time. Public health indicators are intended to make it easier for governments and others to analyze the situation, identify strengths and challenges, and understand the needs of the population so that they can work in a targeted manner to improve health and well-being at all stages of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mar\u00eda Heimisd\u00f3ttir, Director of Public Health, both opened and closed the meeting. She began by discussing the purpose of public health and at the end she reiterated that these are indicators that provide clues about the situation and how important it is for people on the ground to then assess the situation and work further with the data. She spoke about the importance of collaboration and dialogue across sectors of society and the importance of coming together as today to present the Public Health Indicators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u00fa\u00f0v\u00edk \u00deorgeirsson, Director of the Westfjords Health Institute, chaired the meeting, and speakers included Sigr\u00ed\u00f0ur J\u00fal\u00eda Brynleifsd\u00f3ttir, Mayor of \u00cdsafjar\u00f0arb\u00e6r, Mar\u00eda Heimisd\u00f3ttir, Director of Public Health, Gu\u00f0r\u00fan Aspelund, Epidemiologist, D\u00f3ra Gu\u00f0r\u00fan Gu\u00f0mundsd\u00f3ttir, Director of Public Health at the Director of Public Health, Dagn\u00fd Finnbj\u00f6rnsd\u00f3ttir, Community Health Promotion Liaison at \u00cdsafjar\u00f0arb\u00e6r, and Margr\u00e9t Geirsd\u00f3ttir, Director of Welfare at \u00cdsafjar\u00f0arb\u00e6r. The presentation was open to all and was also streamed. Good and useful discussions arose at the end of the meeting, where various issues and research on the subject and the situation in \u00cdsafjar\u00f0arb\u00e6r were touched upon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
